COEXIST: Help Rebuild Libraries and Communities Fun Run 2018 - A Color Buddy Run for the Benefit of Marawi Libraries

The I Love My Library (ILML) Campaign & Fun Run Task Force conducted a Color Buddy Run for the 2018 ILML month. As the event also falls on the 10th year anniversary of the ILML campaign, the committee intended to introduce a different concept for the event with the aim to attract more participants and generate funds for the benefit of the library’s outreach program.

OBJECTIVE

The COEXIST: Help Rebuild Libraries and Communities Color Buddy Run 2018 aims to promote the ILML campaign and to raise funds for the benefit  of the library’s outreach program which would support the rehabilitation of war-torn libraries in Marawi City, Mindanao.

EVENT DETAILS

The Color Buddy Run was held on February 11, 2018 (Sunday) at the UP Academic Oval and was open to anyone willing to support the advocacy.

The start and finish venue of the run was in front of the UP Melchor Hall steps. Runners had to pass three (3) stations once for 3K buddy runners and twice for 5K buddy runners.

  • First station: University Avenue around the circular island of ornamental plants in the shapes and colors of University Seal
  • Second station: Palma Hall
  • Third station: Malcolm Hall

EVENT PROPER

The library staff arrived before the registration and confirmation of attendance of participants to set up the venue. The marshals were given instructions on their tasks along with the colored powder that they will disperse in their stations. Marshals were assigned at their stations 15 minutes before the start of the run.

Representatives from UP Beta Epsilon Fraternity also came earlier to set up the soup which they brought. The fraternity also brought pieces of white long-stemmed roses for the first female finishers of the run. The library staff and utility workers also assisted in the distribution of the food.

Confirmation of attendance began at 4:30AM. The emcees for the event, Prof. Astrid Ayla Liberato and Mr. Mark Angelo Fernandez, shortly called the participants to join the warm up led by three Zumba instructors from UP CHK: Mr. Juan Miguel Morales, Mr. Diego Europa, and Mr. Ezi Alcantara.
