2015 KAPIHAN SA AKLATAN: AN AFTERNOON OF TEA AND COFFEE WITH THE NEW FACULTY MEMBERS

The UP College of Engineering Library once again facilitated the “Kapihan sa Aklatan: an Afternoon of Tea and Coffee with the New Faculty Members” last August 28, 2015 at The Learning Commons of Engineering Library II. Now on its 7th year, this event aims to familiarize the new, as well as to reintroduce to the senior faculty members the library’s collection, services, facilities, and their privileges.
The event was attended by ten faculty members: 1 each from the Energy Engineering Program, Departments of Chemical Engineering and Mining, Metallurgical, and Materials Engineering, and from the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Institute; 2 from the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research; and 4 from the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
Dr. Joel Marciano, former EEEI Director, Dr. Louis Danao, LFC representative of the EgyE Program, and Mr. Ralph Jose and Ms. Jennifer Fabular, the LFC Chair and Representative of DME, were among the participants.
The faculty members were welcomed by Engglib’s Head Librarian, Ms. Sharon Maria S. Esposo-Betan. The library’s vast print and electronic resources, services, and facilities were first discussed. Unique and innovative services such as the Digital Institutional Repository as well as the different miscellaneous services like the borrowing of umbrellas, reading glasses, calculators, adaptors, and extension cords were emphasized. The library’s research tools, namely the Thomson Innovation Patent Database and Federated Search were likewise presented and demonstrated to the faculty members. The Federated Search is the library’s newest research tool aimed at making the library’s print and electronic resources more discoverable through a single search box.
Engglib also invited the sales manager of LibTech to give an orientation and training on the use of the Turnitin Anti-Plagiarism Tool. To further rev up the orientation, raffle prizes were given. And as a token, the faculty members each received an “I need. I value. I Love My Library” shirt.
Since the Kapihan sa Aklatan aims not only to promote what Engglib has to offer, but also to warmly welcome and meet new faculty members, the library prepared free flowing coffee, tea, and snacks varying from Italian to Japanese Cuisine.
